NORD Lead® 2X Virtual Analog

Price List Rp.18.300.000
NORD Lead® 2X Virtual Analog
The original Nord Lead and Nord Lead 2 are among the most popular synthesizers ever built. Debuting in 1995, the first Nord Lead virtual analog synthesizer took the music world by storm. It instantly became an industry standard and has secured its place among the most revered classic synthesizers.

The Beauty Of Simplicity
Its warm analog sound coupled with cutting-edge digital technology moved the Nord Lead into a “leading” position in the synthesizer community. Musicians from all over the world loved its simplicity, intuitive design, and its musicality and expression offered with the virtual analog concept.

The Nord Lead 2 improved upon the original Nord Lead, including expanded polyphony. A decade later, the Nord Lead, and its descendant the Nord Lead 2, are still among the most popular synths ever built. Used worldwide on stage and in studios, the Nord Lead series has contributed to the signature sounds of some of the most popular musicians and producers known today ... and we want to keep it that way!
New Features
The Nord Lead 2X has the same characteristic sound and functions as the Nord Lead 2, except for some very nice improvements:
  • X-tra polyphony:The Nord Lead 2X comes with 20 voices polyphony - very useful when creating layered sounds, "power pads", awesome leads and booming basses. 20 voices are also very beneficial in sequencing situations when you use more than one sound at a time.
  • X-tra memory:The Nord Lead 2X comes with a large internal memory holding 4 x 99 user Programs, 100 user Performances and 4 x 10 user Percussion Kits plus 6 x 99 factory Programs and 3 x 100 factory Performances! The Nord Lead 2X is 100% patch compatible with the Nord Lead 2 which means that you can transfer sounds directly between the models via MIDI.
  • X-tra high resolution:The awesome sound in the Nord Lead 2X is refined even further thanks to the brand new, crystal clear 24-bit DACs running at 96kHz.
Why change a winning concept? We didn’t! With the Nord Lead 2X, we simply upgraded the hardware, maintaining the same concept and sound. Virtual analog sound will live on for years to come, and the Nord Lead 2X is part of that legacy.

The Nord Lead 2X features all the characteristics of its predecessor, and incorporates many new features as well. The “in your face” sound of the Nord Lead 2X has been enhanced with 24-bit D/A converters. The preset memory houses 7 x 99 factory Programs, 3 x 100 factory performances, and 7 x 10 Percussion Kits. Additionally, the user banks give you room to store your own sounds - 3 x 99 Programs, 3 x 100 Performances, and 3 x 10 Percussion Kits. The polyphony has been upgraded to 20 voices as well.

The Nord Lead 2X is compatible with the Nord Lead 2, so you can transfer your custom sounds directly via MIDI. The Nord Lead 2X preserves all the essential parts of the Nord Lead 2, including the user fast and easy interface and its characteristic sound.

The Nord Lead 2X continues the tradition of Nord’s unique method of sound generation. Mathematical simulations of the signals generated by analog oscillators are the basis for the incredible sound that speaks for itself. People know Nord by its sound, and the Nord Lead 2X gives you that certain quality that is unmistakable!

The Stage And Studio Synth
The compact and smart design of the Nord Lead 2X makes it equally perfect for live performance and for production studio work. With 26 knobs and 27 buttons - all sending MIDI controller data - the Nord Lead 2X communicates with every piece of MIDI gear in your setup.

In your studio, the Nord Lead 2X can be used as a sound design tool and a MIDI controller in one. Every production studio needs a synth, and what can be more reliable than a dedicated hardware synth that allows realtime sculpting of custom sounds?

Virtual Analog
Part of the allure of classic synthesizers is the physical control of the sound. If you want to change the shape of the sound, you turned a knob. Then digital technology changed synthesizers, replacing those knobs with a handful of buttons, a small LCD, and a top panel graphic that displayed the sound engine’s routing.

Virtual analog brings the technology and physical control together, recreating the warm, thick sound of analog synths without the overheating or tuning deficiencies. Modern technology allows the knobs to not only digitally manipulate the internal sound, but also send MIDI information to be captured in a sequencer or change a parameter on another MIDI-enabled device.

Nord is known for many things, including the unique Pitch Stick and modulation wheel combo. With the Pitch Stick, you can create your own vibrato, much like a guitarist or violinist, without the “dimple” resting place other pitch benders use. The “dead zone” has been conquered! The ergonomic handling adds another dimension to your performance.

Sporting 20 voices of polyphony, the Nord Lead 2X is perfect for layered pads, screaming leads, and thick booming basses. The keyboard version can be split; it can have two sounds layered on either side of the split point. You can have four simultaneous programs playing at once, and with a movable split point, the possibilities are captivating.

Both the keyboard and rack versions of the Nord Lead 2X are 4-part multitimbral, and these four parts are used together in the Performance Mode. The Nord Lead 2X also has four assignable outputs, so each Performance voice can be routed to its own analog output. Imagine the 2X in a multi-monitor studio setup, or in a creative multi-speaker PA system, and you can begin to see how much fun the Nord Lead 2X can be.

Velocity Programming
A special Velocity Programming section can be controlled by the Modulation Wheel, making it possible to continuously morph between parameter settings. This feature is a musically expressive tool that allows you to shape your sound in realtime.

MIDI
Let’s go MIDI controlling! In the studio, the Nord Lead 2X offers real time MIDI recording of knob settings and special “MIDI patches” to recreate many of the effects produced by external patching on traditional units. For example, let your pre-recorded drum pattern trigger filter and amplifier envelopes, where the hi-hat pattern triggers the filter envelope and the kick drum pattern simultaneously triggers the amplifier envelope.

...Is Four Synths in One!
There are four parts which are directly accessible from the front panel. This makes it possible to instantly create layers with up to four different sounds, where each separate sound in the layer can easily be edited in real time. Each sound can have its own independent output. Make up super patches in the Performance section. Create monster basses and mega pads.

NORD Lead Anniversary Limited Edition
To celebrate and commemorate the 25th anniversary of Clavia in 2008, a limited production run of 299 units was produced of the Nord Lead Anniversary Model.

The Nord Lead Anniversary Model Ltd. Edition shares the specifications with the Nord Lead 2x and was easily recognizable with a custom printed front panel and the inverted color scheme on the keyboard. The individually numbered units were delivered with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Mr Nordelius.

Three Models
The Stage 2 comes in three models: The Stage 2 HA88 and Stage 2 HA76 feature our new top-of-the-line fully weighted Hammer Action keyboard. The Stage 2 SW73 features a 73-note Semi Weighted Waterfall keyboard. Apart from the keyboard type and the number of accessories available, all three models have identical features.

The Sound Inside
The Stage 2 has three sound generating sections; Piano, Organ and Synthesizer, all of which can be used simultaneously. Furthermore, up to two sounds from each section can be combined in a single program for massive sonic flexibility.

Piano Section
The Stage 2 Piano section has evolved from the multi award winning Nord Piano; featuring our state-of-the-art sampling techniques the Stage 2’s pianos capture the extraordinary nuances and real character of the individual source instruments. Combined with the intelligent String Resonance that reproduces the sound of the piano strings resonating at their fundamental or harmonic frequencies when other strings are played, and compatibility with the optional Nord Triple Pedal that adds Dynamic Pedal Noise – the result is breathtaking realism and an unsurpassed expressiveness.

An all-new feature in the Nord Stage 2 is the Long Release function. With Long Release activated you get a slightly longer release more suitable for legato playing. This important feature reflects adjusting the damper tension in an acoustic or an electromechanical instrument.

The Nord Triple Pedal (optional accessory) features our unique dynamic sustain pedal that gives you exceptional control of the mechanical noise during operation and also sostenuto and soft pedals for half-pedaling and "release and catch" techniques.

In addition to vivid acoustic Grand and Upright pianos, the Piano section also features some of the finest, most desirable vintage electric pianos. The Stage 2’s piano sounds are future-proof thanks to its compatibility with the Nord Piano Library. This free online library is continuously updated with both upgraded existing pianos and all-new pianos to keep your instrument constantly renewed.

Organ Section
Over ten years have passed since we made our first digital model of a tone wheel organ. The Stage 2’s dedicated organ section now uses our third generation B3 Organ model, the same as found in our acclaimed Nord C2 Organ.

Considered by many to be the most accurate emulation of the B3 ever, the Stage 2’s organ model is based on the analysis of the signals from each of the 91 spinning discs inside several original instruments and painstaking work on understanding exactly how all the components interact with each other. The virtual circuitry reacts not only to the settings on the panel but also during the real time performance. The Stage 2 will faithfully reproduce the important foldback and energy robbing characteristics; the latter will produce the gentle compression effect that makes those lovely smears absolutely wonderful. There are 3 tone wheel modes that allow you to switch from a clean, factory spec’d instrument to a worn and battered workhorse with many years of touring.

We also created carefully modeled emulations of two of the most famous transistor organs from the 1960’s, the Vox Continental and the Farfisa Compact. Alongside the organ’s themselves, the Stage 2 features our very latest rotary speaker simulation derived from the C2. Incorporating the acoustic variations that occur as a physical rotating spreads the sound around in a room, they bring the Stage 2’s organs to life with remarkable realism. In terms of control, “Draw buttons” and LED bar graphs have replaced the original mechanical drawbars. This gives you the advantage of always having the correct drawbar settings after changing preset. For Organ sounds only, the Stage 2’s keybed is programmed to respond at its highest trigger position, resulting in authentic feel and allowing lightning fast organ techniques.

Synth Section
The Stage 2’s powerful new synthesizer engine was built from the DNA of the Nord Wave. Capable of classic analog synthesis, three operator FM synthesis, Wavetable synthesis and, crucially, compatibility with the Nord Sample Library. The Nord Sample Library not only give Stage 2 owners access to the huge free library of world-class sounds, including the famous vintage Mellotron and Chamberlin samples previously only available to Nord Wave and Nord Electro 3 users, but thanks to the included Nord Sample Editor for Mac and PC, allows user-created samples to be loaded into the instrument and thus opening up a whole new creative world of sound.

The Synth engine itself features classic analog synthesis with dual saw, hard sync and pulse wave modulation, three-operator FM synthesis with 32 different modulation frequencies, Wavetable synthesis with 62 waveforms and Sample based synthesis. A new great-sounding multimode filter features 12 and 24dB low pass, high pass, band pass and notch filters. And with an Amp envelope, Modulation envelope, an LFO, and Unison control, the Stage 2’s synth capabilities are hugely powerful, delivering amazing on-stage sound.

The Synth section also features a new Arpeggiator that can be easily synced to the Stage 2’s Master Clock for perfect timing with other elements of the Stage 2, including its effects.

Programming And Control
To make programming and on-stage control as simple as possible we have arranged the sound generators and controls of the Stage 2 into dedicated sections – Piano, Organ and Synth. Not only does this make for a very intuitive approach to programming but also instantly shows you which settings are active. There are no deep menus, no complicated screens to navigate. All vital functions are controlled by dedicated single-function knobs.

In addition our patented Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel allow maximum musical expression and our efficient Morph Grouping technique is also included, allowing you to assign sound and effects parameters to physical controllers.

Extern Section
The Nord Stage 2 wouldn’t be a master keyboard if it couldn’t control external devices with ease. The Extern Section is designed solely for this purpose, so that any MIDI-connected gear gets seamlessly integrated with the Stage 2’s built-in instruments. Zones, splits and layers are handled exactly as if the external equipment was a part of the Stage 2 itself.

All settings are saved together with a Program so advanced setups can be immediately recalled in real-time during a performance. You can even use the Extern Section to automatically transmit Bank Select and Program Change messages to your external units.

The Keyboard
Naturally, a keyboard is not just about the sound but also the feel. The Stage 2 HA88 and Stage 2 HA76 feature our new top-of-the-line fully weighted Hammer Action keyboard that also has been improved for response when playing rapid repeated notes. The Stage 2 SW73 features a 73-note Semi Weighted Waterfall keyboard. At Nord we also do something that nobody else does: during the assembly of each instrument in our Stockholm factory, every keybed is individually and specifically tuned for a consistent response and balance.

Effect Section
No sound is complete without the proper use of effects. In the Nord Stage 2 we incorporated all the effects required to cover musicians’ needs. All of the three instrument sections - Organ, Piano and Synth - can be routed individually through the Stage 2’s built-in effect units. Turning the effects on and off, and controlling the routing is easily done by a touch of dedicated buttons, readily accessible at the bottom of each effects unit.

The new Master Clock function makes it easy to sync effects to other elements, like the arpeggiator, LFO or even one of the other effects. You can easily lock the effect rate to a range of note values – make the delay do quarter note triplets of what arpeggiator is playing, while the LFO gently sweeps the filter up and down in half notes, all perfectly interlocked. The Master Clock can also be controlled by an external MIDI clock – perfect for syncing your parts to a backing track, including tempo changes!

Effect 1
Here you can choose from Tremolo, two Wahs, an Auto-Wah, and an AutoPan. Use the AutoWah with a Clavinet for raw funk licks, create a psychedelic vibe with an Electric Piano on AutoPan, or give a Wurlitzer some body using the Tremolo. There is also a Ring Modulator on board, an effect used by many experimental and electronic musicians.

Effect 2
The two Phasers, two Choruses, the Flanger and new Vibe effect are modeled from the classic analog stomp boxes that define the sound of popular music. These swirling Phasers, metallic Flangers, and thick Choruses that are used by uncompromising professionals everywhere are crystal clear and faithfully simulated on the Nord Stage 2.

Delay
A delay unit has been included to create haunting echoes or slap back effects. The delay also supports a ping-pong mode, and the tempo can easily be adjusted with the tap-tempo button, or synced to the master clock. The delay also has an Analog mode for creating those classic “warped” sounds when changing the delay rate on repeats.

Amp Simulation & Equalizer
This effect section combines a three-band equalizer with a sophisticated amplifier and speaker cabinet modeler. Classic amplifiers and speakers are a crucial part to make vintage Electric piano sounds come alive. Nord offers the famous sounds of speaker simulations of a Twin Reverb, a Jazz Chorus 120 and a Wurlitzer speaker. When no Amp Model is selected, the unit provides a neutral three-band EQ with sweepable mid and a crunchy overdrive.

Rotary Speaker
The new improved Rotary Speaker simulation, which not only brings an essential character to a live organ performance, can also be used with any of the electric or acoustic piano sounds and the synthesizer.

Master Effects
A Compressor and a Reverb are placed at the end of the sound chain, to help you blend your sounds more naturally together. The Reverb unit has six different Hall, Stage and Room spaces to create different atmospheres for your sounds, while the Compressor helps you keep the overall mix tight and under control.

Not only can you effortlessly change the sounds and dial in the desired effect settings on the panel, the Nord Piano is the world's first stage piano that allows you to completely replace the piano sounds in the instrument.
When your needs, or your mood changes, just download another piano from the large selection of unique sounds in theNord Piano Library.

Exchanging the piano sounds inside your Nord Piano is easy. Connect the piano to your computer using the built-in USB-interface and your choice of sound is simply a matter of preferred style.
Perhaps the acoustic Grand Lady would suit your taste this morning? Or maybe one of the smaller, more intimate acoustic upright pianos is a better choice? Why not fit a vintage Sparkletop electric piano too, and you'll be ready for the jazz gig later tonight.

String Resonance
String Resonance is the acoustic phenomenon that occurs inside an acoustic piano or a grand piano when strings, or parts of strings, resonate at their fundamental or harmonic frequencies when other strings are played.

When this functionality is turned on using the Nord Piano's acoustic pianos, all notes you play will affect each other to reproduce the wonderful acoustics that occurs inside an acoustic grand or upright piano.

The String Resonance is very noticeable if you use the sustain pedal with the String Resonance feature enabled. The notes that you play will have a beautiful sound quality to them, when all the un-dampened strings resonate as you play sustained notes.

Another thing that the String Resonance produces is a crescendo effect. If you play the same key repeatedly with the same force, the sound will change over time. This is originally caused by the hammers hitting the vibrating string in various phases, and creates a nice, gentle fluctuation in volume and timbre in the Nord Piano.

For rock and pop music, when sometimes a more dry and direct sound is desired, simply turn off the String Resonance. Sometimes less is more

Easy to access programs
There are 120 programs in the Nord Piano. These are accessed by 24 banks with 5 programs each, with convenient program buttons located right on the panel where you need them during your performance. You edit the programs by just changing the parameters on the panel, and all the changes you make can be stored in any program location by using the Store button.

The Nord Piano has a Live Mode with 5 separate locations, where every setting you change are automatically stored. This is a great feature during rehearsals when you are getting the set list ready, or as a sketchpad for those great programs, that are still to come.

Every program can be given a name; you enter the name from the Nord Piano panel or by using the Nord Sound Manager. Along with the program name, the piano model used will be displayed in the LCD. Parameter values and menu settings will be shown when applicable.

Transpose and Velocity Curves
With the Transpose feature, you can set a transposition value between -6 and +6 semitones, directly from the panel. This setting will be saved in the programs if you want to make this an integrated part of your parameter selection. There is an additional global transpose setting in the system menu that can be combined with the panel transpose.

The Kbd Touch feature enables you to alter the response from the keyboard. There are four curves available. These make it progressively easier for you to reach the maximum velocity from the Nord Piano keyboard. This can make a huge difference when you want that special touch on an electric piano, or if you hit a bad patch of wrist fatigue during an intense show.

All of the acoustic pianos in the Nord Piano Library are stereo pianos. If you use a mono amplifier or sound system, sometimes it is preferable to playback the sounds in mono. This can be achieved by using the Mono feature that is directly accessed from the panel.

Nord Triple Pedal
The included Nord Triple Pedal offers an unprecedented functionality, with the addition of a dynamic control of the mechanical noise during operation, and the ability for you as a player to use half-pedalling and "release and catch"techniques.

The right pedal is the sustain pedal. When the sustain pedal is operated on an acoustic grand or upright piano, many different sounds are produced by the mechanical components, several of the sounds can be reproduced by the Nord Piano.

When the dampers are lifted from the strings when the sustain pedal is pressed down, a beautiful sizzle can be heard. When you remove the foot from the pedal, the dampers are returned on to the strings, which creates a different, muted type of sound.

Since the pedal is dynamic, you can experiment with various forces in pressing, and in releasing the pedal. If you just slip your foot of the sustain pedal, allowing the return spring to spring with full force, a noticeable sound will appear.

The "floor sound" is heard when the pedal reaches the bottom of its travel. You can experience this in isolation if you press down the pedal completely, then lift it less than halfway back up and then press down again.
If you lift the pedal and immediately press it down again, a very rich sound will be heard. Another big sound is 'The Stomp', which requires you to start with your foot above the actual pedal, in order to be able to reach the high velocity that is required to get this sound.

The left pedal is the soft pedal, the Una Corda. When you press this pedal, all the notes you play will be slightly lower in volume and have a slightly more subdued tone quality.

The middle pedal is the Sostenuto. By using this pedal, you can sustain selected notes, while other notes remain unaffected. Only the notes that are held down when the pedal is operated will sustain. Other notes that you play while keeping the pedal down will sound as if no pedal was operated at all.

Effects, EQ and Amps
The effects in the Nord Piano are just as detailed as the piano sounds themselves. The tremolo adds that perfect vibe, the pan sweeps across the stereo panorama, and the auto-wah brings out the funk in you, like never before.

Whenever you want a modulation effect there's a beautiful phaser, a screaming flanger and a lush chorus, all modeled fromhighly desirable vintage effects.

The Nord Piano speaker models faithfully reproduces the overdrive response of different amplifier/cabinet combinations. Select the desired speaker model - Small, JC or Twin - and use the Drive knob to add powerful tube amplifier distortion to your piano sound.

MIDI over USB, Extended USB functionality
The Nord Piano is the first Nord unit to have its USB functionality extended to include MIDI messages. This feature allows you to use the Nord Piano as a controller keyboard with a computer, using the USB interface to transmit and receive MIDI data.
