How Does Equalization Work?
Imagine the audio frequency range as a very wide highway with lots of “lanes”. Each of these lanes represents a specific frequency band.

• The lanes on the left side contain the really low frequency content, mainly bass, bass vocals, and the kick and tom drums
• The middle lanes make up the fundamental zone of most musical instruments and the male and female vocals

GQ600 Overview
whilst high quality long-throw 45mm sliders are used for better resolution.
The GQ600 also provides excellent noise anddistortion performance, with a flat noise figure of better than-98dBm. A shelving H.F. Trim section is provided, with adjustable gain and frequency allowing fast adjustments to be made to overall high frequency response. This obviates the need for system re-voicing when, for example, changes in humidity or audience size occur. A sweepable high-pass filter offers turnover frequencies of 10Hz to 150Hz and a fixed frequency low-pass filter is also provided for increased H.F. driver protection. This filter is selectable in or out of circuit via jumper links on the main circuit board.
Audio inputs and outputs are provided on lockable LXR's and 'quick-wire' Klippon connectors and are fully electronically balanced as standard. Optional transformer balancing is also available for both inputs and outputs.

GQ 600 Architects' Specifications

• The dual channel equaliser shall contain 2 x 30 filters centred on 1/3 octave ISO centre frequencies from 25Hz to 20kHz. 10dB of boost and cut shall be provided for each filter via 45mm slide controls. The slide controls shall incorporate centre detent. A high frequency "Trim" section with shelving response shall be provided, allowing up to 8dB of boost or cut to be applied at any frequency 2kHz to 20kHz via rotary frequency and gain controls. The gain control shall incorporate centre detent.
• The equaliser shall contain 12dB/octave high-pass filters for each channel with turnover frequencies variable between 10Hz and 150Hz. A fixed frequency 19dB/octave low-pass filter shall be provided to aid H.F driver protection. The unit shall provide a rotary gain control for each channel allowing ±10dB of gain to be applied. This control shall incorporate centre detent.
• An EQ in/out switch shall be provided for each channel, allowing the 1/3 octave equaliser section to be selected in or out of circuit. A peak level indicator shall provide warning when signals above 20dB are detected.
• Audio connections shall be provided via XLR and Klippon "quick wire" connectors. Inputs and outputs shall be electronically balanced with transformer balancing available to order. A security cover shall be available to cover all front panel controls. The unit shall include Bypass relays which automatically operate when power is interupted.

Graphic equalisers are found in just about every sound application, from room contouring to feedback control and general audio sweetening.
Traditionally, much general eq'ing takes place on the faders alone, but this restricts the use of the faders at each end of the scale for further precision eq work. So we provided the Opal FCS-966 with separate LF and HF contour filters which can change an overall sound balance without disturbing a detailed room or loudspeaker response.
These filters are very musical gentle boost and cut shelving filters which can be used to add (or remove) room effects that change with temperature, audience numbers or humidity.
All these effects can be easily made without disturbing the critical fader settings already made.

Constant Q Filters
The modern generation of graphic eq's uses the Constant Q topology, pioneered by BSS Audio, which means that the filter width is constant whatever the fader gain setting.
Compared to the earlier 'gyrator' style of filters, Constant Q filters provide a smoother and more predictable interaction between adjacent faders and the resulting eq curve more closely resembles the actual fader positions.

More Gain Control Per Filter
Each eq fader has +/-15dB of adjustable gain, more than many competitive graphic eq's. The faders are long-throw 45mm types for precision control.

High Pass Filter
Also provided on the FCS-966 is a sweepable high-pass filter which can be used very effectively to restrict the low-energy output for better amplifier and loudspeaker performance. Stage monitors also benefit from the application of a high-pass filter to remove bass signals e.g. from vocal-only wedges.

Metering
BSS Audio believes in providing engineers with information, and the FCS-966's 8-segment led meter shows output level and warns of signal clipping within the eq. When the unit is switched to bypass, the meter will read the input level, allowing accurate matching of the 'dry' and equalised signals using the gain control.

Centre Bypass
When any eq fader is in its centre detent position, the filter is automatically bypassed, for optimum performance.

Input/Outputs
All the inputs and outputs of the FCS-966 are electronically balanced, with optional transformer balancing. To make installation of the FCS-966 easier, we've provided three differerent interface connectors: XLR-type, 1/4" TRS jack and Phoenix/Combicon screw terminals.

Relay Bypass

into circuit. When switched out, or power fails, a high-quality relay switches the input signal directly to the output connectors.

GQX Series graphic equalizers are available in two configurations. The GQX-1502 features two channels of 15-band 2/3-octave equalization and a switchable high-pass filter (40Hz). The GQX-3102 features two channels of 31-band 1/3-octave EQ, a tunable high-pass filter circuit (8Hz to 200Hz), a switch-selectable cut or boost of either 6dB or 15dB. The 45mm full-throw faders are a custom-manufactured metal-shaft type, with the center detented position utilized as an "on/off" switch for that filter which minimizes any possible degradation in signal noise levels. A 10-segment, two color LED meter displays accurately displays your signal level and referenses 0 VU to +4dBu.

The GQX models are designed to be significantly quiet without the need for noise reduction to be built into the equalizer circuit. Double-sided circuit boards and an extensive ground plane design are used in the filter sections to improve RFI and electrostatic immunity. Precision Wein-Bridge filters and carefully designed summing amplifiers combine to provide extremely accurate response, low noise, negligible distortion, and complete immunity to magnetic fields. All filters exhibit true constant "Q" response with no broadening near the "flat" setting. High slew-rate circuitry throughout the signal path results in clean, quiet, transparent sound. The faders used are a custom-manufactured metal-shaft type, with molded saddle knobs, for the ultimate in reliability and smooth "feel". Ashly's unique "T-Beam" front panel construction eliminates interconnections between the faders and the filters, resulting in a very rugged and rigid front panel.

Input and output connections include locking XLR, 1/4" TRS and Euroblock. Ashly's servo-balanced output circuitry maintains unity gain even if pins 2 or 3 are connected directly to ground. The power supply is a universal switching power supply which operates from 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz with the power switch
located on the rear panel.

The ARX EQ260 is a Dual Channel 30 band Graphic Equalizer designed to give you the flawless professional performance you demand, yet take up minimal rack space. It is neatly housed in a compact 3 RU all steel chassis.

Quality you can feel as well as hear
Each channel on the silver grey front panel features 30 of our new Extended Resolution long throw, centre grounding faders, switchable to either ±15dB or ±6dB, for the ideal combination of high fader resolution and maximum cut and boost. A protective dust cover is also fitted to each fader.

As well, there is a Gain recovery control with up to +10 dB of gain; a Clip LED to indicate circuit overload, a sweepable 20-200Hz High Pass filter, and an IN/OUT hardwire bypass switch which removes the EQ260 completely from the signal path.

Accurate Constant Q Circuitry
Internally, the EQ260 features innovative Constant Q circuitry. What makes this so good? Well, it means that the graphical representation of the sliders on the front panel more accurately reflects the changes you make to the sound, as compared to traditional EQ designs.

In other words, 'what you see is what you get.' Combine this circuitry with the 60 individual filters in the EQ260, and you have an equalizer that is unsurpassed for total accuracy.
Additionally, at the 0dB slider position each filter is, in effect, removed from the circuit to further enhance the EQ260's low noise figures.

Balanced Inputs and Outputs
On the rear panel, the EQ260 has true differential Balanced Inputs and Servo Balanced Outputs, on both XLR as well as convenient TRS jack connectors.
There is also an audio ground lift switch to isolate the audio ground from the chassis ground.

Universal AC Power
AC power range is a universal 100 to 120V or 220 to 240V AC, and is connected to the unit via a removable power lead and standard 3 pin IEC connector, with built-in fuse and voltage switch.
