The PercPad enables you to add four drum pads and an optional kick trigger to your acoustic or electronic kit or percussion setup. It's compact, easy to fit into tight setups, easy to use, and it contains sounds that are perfect for accessorizing standard drumsets.

Compact Configuration
The PercPad has four velocity-sensitive pads, a kick input, and high-quality internal sounds, all in a compact size that's the perfect choice for drummers and other instrumentalists looking to start incorporating electronic percussion into their setups.

Unlike massive, overcomplicated multi-percussion units, the PercPad is specifically designed to be small and self-contained with just what you need and nothing you don't.

Flexible Mounting
You can mount the PercPad on a standard snare drum stand, on any stand or rack using the Module Mount (sold separately), or place on a tabletop surface such as a percussion table, studio workstation, or DJ rig.

Universal Sounds
The PercPad has a collection of acoustic and electronic drum and percussion that are perfectly suited to the needs of drummers and percussionists. You'll find ready-to-play acoustic and electronic drums and percussion from Latin America and Asia that perfect for complimenting your drums.

You can easily tune and edit sounds, and assign any sound to any pad, or to the kick input. If the internal sound library doesn't contain the sounds you need, the PercPad has a MIDI connection to you can use it to trigger sounds from any MIDI sound module or software on Mac or PC.

Connect Up
You can connect the PercPad to amplifiers, PA and recording systems with the standard dual 1/4-inch outputs, and monitor on your favorite headphones. Controllable Phrase Loop function with 50 preset phrases (Version 2)The onboard Phrase Loop function lets you instantly create layered loops and phrases. You can record and store 50 phrases internally, with each containing up to three layers. You can also save your phrase data on your USB Memory. With Version 2, you can control the start of Phrase Loop using pad velocity, buttons presses, and/or a footswitch (optional). Additionally, you can toggle freely between solo play (Kit mode) and phrase play (Phrase Loop mode). Nineteen new phrases have been added to the onboard library, which adds exciting performance and recording possibilities.

Useful Kit Chains for live performance (Version 2)
There are eight banks of Kit Chains onboard conveniently organized into musical style and instrument categories. Select from Drum Kits, Percussion, Orchestra Perc, Club Sounds, Melodic Perc, Melodic Synth, Sound Effects, and Expanded Kits. Use the Chains as is, or easily edit them to best suit your live-performance needs.

Output Gain Function (Version 2)
A new Output Gain function has been added to increase the overall output of the OCTAPAD SPD-30. It provides a +6 dB boost when a stronger signal is needed.

Sound Edit
Unlike the original Octapad PAD-8, which was strictly a MIDI controller, the Octapad SPD-30 is a controller that’s packed with its own internal bank of sounds. You can customize the sounds with the onboard controls for tuning, muffling, attack, pitch sweep, and more. It’s like having a truckload of customizable drum and percussion instruments in one portable package.

Multi-Effects
Based on Roland’s world-leading effects technology, the SPD-30’s multi-effects engine will take your performances to another level. There are 30 types of internal multi-effects onboard, plus EQ, limiter, and seven Ambience types.

Advanced Triggering Technology
The SPD-30 benefits from Roland’s most advanced V-Drum triggering technology. Each pad is a separate, isolated unit, providing the ultimate in sensitivity with complete crosstalk rejection. Here we have 2 traditionally shaped cajons from the Primero and Elite range. The Primero box cajon is made from Asiatic Pine with a Gypsy Brown matt lacquer finish, while the Elite is constructed of harder Para Wood and is stained Amaranth Red.

Both models have 4 internal snare wires which are adjusted (i.e. tightened or loosend) using internal tuning pegs which are identical to guitar tuning pegs. Pearl’s documentation states that the snares can be turned off for “Peruvian style playing” or left on for “Spanish Flamenco style” playing. However, there is no simple way to turn them off as you have on a snare drum. What you do have is a basic Velcro strip across the wires which can be removed or left in place.
If you remove the Velcro strip the snares sound louder of course, however, if you leave the Velcro strip in place the snares are dampened somewhat, but still affect the sound. Not a very effective method actually. Some kind of on/off external knob would be preferable because getting the velcro strip back in the correct place when you can’t actually see what you are doing (because your hand is inside the cajon and the access hole is not very large) is a tricky process to say the least! I think most players would choose to leave the snares on anyway because for me the resulting sound is nicer, the snares providing a welcome element to the sound.
